Garage door repair for a town where the dust does half the damage.

Stuck doors fixed the same day, broken springs, dead openers, sensors the dust has beaten, hail-dented panels, worn seals and new doors across Lubbock and the towns around it. The technician names the price on your driveway before touching a bolt, carries the common parts, and will tell you plainly when a repair is not worth the money.

What the door doesWhat it usually is here
  1. BACK
Starts down, stops, goes back upDust on the photo-eye lenses. Wipe them. If it still does it, the brackets or wiring.
  2. BANG
A bang, then it will not liftTorsion spring, usually on a cold morning. Do not pull the red cord. Same-day spring replacement.
  3. GRIND
Grinding, squealing, shakingGrit and old grease ground into the rollers and track. Clean, new rollers, light lube. Not more spray.
  4. RUB
Drags on one side, gap at one cornerOften the opening itself, not the door: the slab has moved. We measure for square first.
  5. DENTS
Golf-ball dents after the stormHail. One panel replaced if the model is still made; a straight answer if a new door costs less.

Every repair is priced on the driveway before it starts. Most finish in the same visit with parts from the truck.

By the numbers

Four numbers that explain garage doors in Lubbock

A dry, windy, hail-prone plain at 3,200 feet, a city where half the houses are rented, and a slab under every garage that moves with the seasons. Each of those shows up at the door.

18.33 inAverage yearly rainfall in Lubbock per the National Weather Service. Semi-arid, which means the soil is loose, the wind lifts it, and it ends up in roller bearings, photo-eye lenses and opener drives. Dust, not rust, is what wears a door out on the South Plains
58–68 mphGusts recorded by mesonet stations on June 5, 2019, when a wall of wind and dust crossed the South Plains and dropped visibility near zero on I-27. A door that was fine on June 4 came out of that with packed tracks and a filmed-over sensor
51.2%Homeownership rate in Lubbock. Half the houses are rentals, Texas Tech has 40,000-plus students, and every August thousands of garage doors change hands with the lease. Landlords and property managers are a big share of the calls
$60,895Median household income in Lubbock, against average earnings well below the national figure. This is a town that asks what it costs first, so the price list is on the site and the technician quotes before touching the door

Three honest answers

Things a Lubbock garage door company should tell you up front

Lube

More spray makes it worse

In a wet climate, a noisy door gets lubricant. Here, the track and rollers are already carrying a paste of old grease and blown grit, and adding more just feeds it. The right fix is to clean the track dry, replace rollers whose bearings are packed, and apply a light coat of the right product. If a technician reaches for a spray can before a rag, ask why.

Square

Sometimes it is the opening, not the door

Lubbock houses sit on slabs over shallow caliche and clay, and the slab moves with the seasons. When it does, the garage opening is no longer square: the door drags on one side, daylight shows at one corner, the limits stop matching, and one side's rollers wear fast. Adjusting the door treats the symptom. We measure the opening first, say so if it has moved, and point you to a foundation assessment instead of selling you a new door.

License

Texas does not license this trade

No garage door company in Texas holds a state garage door license, because there is none. The state only regulates openers that are tied to an alarm system or that log who comes and goes, and we do not install those. The question to ask is whether the technician carries general liability and workers' compensation insurance. Ours do, and the certificate comes before the truck.

What breaks here

Four calls every week on the South Plains

Gloved hand holding a garage door photo-eye safety sensor against the track near the floor, its lens dulled by a film of dust, indicator light showing
Dust

The door that will not close

It goes down, stops, goes back up, and the opener light blinks. A film of dust on the photo-eye lenses weakens the beam until the opener decides something is in the way. It is the single most common call in Lubbock and it is often a cloth and a bracket adjustment, not a part.

Sensor repair →
Close-up of a snapped torsion spring on the shaft above a garage door, a two-inch gap between the broken coils, fine dust on the shaft and bearing plate
Cold snap

The January bang

Springs break in clusters on the first cold mornings, when stiff lubricant and contracted steel meet a spring near the end of its cycle count. The door is suddenly two hundred pounds of dead weight. Replaced as a pair the same day, with a high-cycle option.

Spring repair →
Golf-ball-size hailstones scattered across a wet concrete driveway in front of a dented white garage door after a West Texas storm, sun breaking through
Hail

The dented top panels

South Plains hail dents steel panels by the dozen, usually the top sections that face the sky. One or two sections can be matched and replaced when the model is still in production; when it is not, or three or more are dented, a new door is the better buy and we say so with the numbers.

Panel replacement →
Close-up of a garage door roller in a vertical track caked with a dark paste of grease and wind-blown grit, a clean replacement nylon roller held beside it
Grit

The door that screams

Steel rollers whose bearings have packed with dust, running in a track coated with grease-and-grit paste. It gets louder every month and eventually a roller seizes and the door jumps the track. Cleaned, re-rollered with sealed nylon, lightly lubricated, quiet again.

This town

The Hub City of the South Plains, where half the doors belong to landlords

Lubbock is the largest city for a hundred miles in any direction, 273,000 people at the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate, the commercial center for a thinly settled farming region that grows a third of the country's cotton. The economy runs on health care, Covenant and UMC together employ about 9,000 people, on Texas Tech with its 40,000 students, on education, retail and government. The median house is worth $212,400 and the median household earns $60,895. People here fix what can be fixed and want the number first.

Two things set the garage doors apart. The first is dust: 18 inches of rain a year, flat farmed ground and a wind that picks it up, so that lenses, bearings, tracks, drives and seals wear from grit rather than moisture. The second is who owns the doors. With homeownership at 51.2 percent, half the garages in town are on rental houses and duplexes, from Tech Terrace to the newer southwest streets, and they change tenants every August. A big share of what we do is for owners and managers who are not standing in the driveway.

We cover the city and the towns around it: Wolfforth, Slaton, Shallowater, Idalou, Ransom Canyon, Abernathy, New Deal and Buffalo Springs Lake, plus the farms and shops between them.

How a call goes

From the phone to the test close

1

Call or send the form

Say what the door is doing: a bang, a door that reverses, a grind, a car stuck inside. Someone picks up at any hour and a technician calls back to set a time, today for a stuck door.

2

The technician looks first

Opener disconnected, door lifted by hand, springs, cables, rollers, track, sensors and seals checked, and the opening measured for square when the door drags. Then a plain explanation.

3

Price on the driveway

Parts by name and labor, in writing, before anything is touched. For a new door or opener, a written quote good for 30 days. For a rental, the quote goes to the owner by text for a yes.

4

Fixed, cleaned, tested

Most repairs finish in the same visit with parts from the truck. Every door leaves balanced, with the track cleaned and the reverse tested against a block on the floor. Photos sent to an owner who was not there.

Where we work

Lubbock and the towns of the South Plains

In the city: Tech Terrace and the older neighborhoods by the university, the Depot District and downtown buildings, north Lubbock's older housing, Lakeridge and Kings Gate, and the big new double doors going in across southwest Lubbock.

Around it: Wolfforth and the Frenship district to the southwest, Slaton and its railroad-town garages to the southeast, Shallowater and Abernathy to the north and northwest, Idalou among the cotton and vineyards to the northeast, Ransom Canyon and Buffalo Springs Lake down in Yellow House Canyon, and New Deal up the highway. Most of those towns have no garage door service of their own.

What Lubbock calls to ask

What does garage door repair cost in Lubbock?

Budget from the 2026 cost guides and get the real number from the technician on your driveway. A service call runs $75 to $175 and is folded into the repair when you go ahead. Spring repair installed is $150 to $375 depending on the spring type, with the spring itself $65 to $85. Cables $100 to $375, a bent or worn track $125 to $400, a photo-eye sensor fix $110 to $200, an opener repair $180 to $360 and a basic replacement opener $300 to $500. A hail-dented panel is $250 to $1,000 and a whole new door $700 to $2,500. The cost page has the full table and what moves each line.

My door starts down, then stops and goes back up. What is wrong?

In Lubbock, nine times out of ten it is the photo-eye sensors near the floor, and most often it is dust on the lens rather than a broken part. Blowing dust films the little lenses, the beam gets weak, and the opener reads it as something in the way. Wipe both lenses with a dry cloth and check that the little lights are steady. If that does not do it, the brackets have been knocked out of line or the wiring has gone, and that is a quick visit.

Why is my door so loud when nothing seems broken?

Grit. Wind-blown dust gets into the roller bearings and the track, mixes with whatever lubricant is on there and turns into an abrasive paste. That paste grinds the rollers and the track every time the door moves, which is why a Lubbock door gets noisy years before the same door would in a wetter town. Spraying more lubricant on it makes it worse. The fix is cleaning the track, replacing the worn rollers with sealed nylon ones and lubricating lightly, which is the tune-up.

Are you licensed?

Texas does not license garage door installers or repairers, so nobody in Lubbock holds a state garage door license. The Texas Department of Public Safety only steps in when an opener is tied to an alarm system or records who comes and goes, and we do not install those. What matters for this trade is insurance: the technicians carry general liability and workers' compensation, and the certificate is sent before anyone comes out. Ask any company you call for the same.

Do you work with landlords and property managers?

Yes, and a lot. Half of Lubbock's housing is rented and tens of thousands of students move in and out every August. We take authorization by text or email from an owner who is not in town, send photos of the problem and the fix, invoice the management company, and get a stuck door working between tenants without anyone having to be there. The rental page explains how it works.

Can you come today?

For a door that is stuck open, stuck shut or has a car trapped behind it, yes, across Lubbock and the towns around it. Say so when you call. Someone picks up at any hour, a technician calls back to set the time, and the price is given on the driveway before any work starts.

Stuck door, snapped spring, or a sensor the dust finally beat?

A technician reaches most Lubbock addresses the same day, carries the common springs and rollers, and quotes the job on the driveway before any work. Landlords and property managers can approve by text.
